New fire rules for Qld residential care buildings
Nursing homes built in Queensland from June will have to meet stricter fire safety standards.
The State Government recently announced a new fire safety code would be mandatory in all new residential care facilities from 1 June.
Sprinklers, extra alarms and communication links with the fire service will have to be installed and evacuation plans developed.
However, owners have won some concessions and will not have to install fire hose reels or construct fire-resistant buildings following concerns these measures would cost too much.
