New Centre for Aged Care Studies in Adelaide
Adelaide has become a hub in a new international research partnership
with the launch of the Centre for Aged Care Studies. The Centre has
been formed to undertake research specifically oriented towards the
practice of aged care and the experience of those whom it supports.
It is based around three existing entities which operate research,
teaching and service delivery models in accord with their respective
charters. The entities are:
. Helping Hand Aged Care
. Centre for Research into Sustainable Health Care (based at the
University of South Australia)
. Group for Elderly Care Research (based at the University of
Oslo, Norway)
The pooled expertise of the three entities will constitute the Centre,
which is intended to provide a focus for collaborative research
activities. The parties have agreed to work collaboratively with the aim
of improving the health and well-being of older adults, particularly in
Australia and Norway.
The Centre is led by Professor Julianne Cheek, who holds academic posts in both Oslo and Adelaide and has a strong track record in the
field of research into aged care service provision.
Also playing a leading role is Professor Marit Kirkevold of the University of Oslo, an outstanding and respected researcher in this area in Norway.
Helping Hand Aged Care has long been known in the aged care sector for providing innovative and best practice service for older people since
1953. Helping Hand is providing financial support, coordination and
essential industry links from where the Australian research data will be
accessed.
