Mr Zimmerman has 30 years+ experience in senior executive positions and non-executive board membership and has worked in the aged care sector since 1991.

He previously held the position of chief executive officer (CEO) for Eldercare, a South Australian based not for profit aged care organisation.

Southern Cross Care (SA & NT), chief executive officer Mr Andrew Larpent OAM says: “We are delighted to announce Mr Klaus Zimmerman AM has been appointed to the vacant Board position.

“We look forward to working with Klaus and to continue the good work the community has come to expect from us after nearly 50 years in the business.”

Mr Zimmerman says Australia has one of the best aged care systems in the world compared to most other countries from an accessibility, quality, service delivery and affordability view point.

“Much has been achieved over the past several decades to meet the needs of the elderly in Australia. With a rapidly ageing demographic aged care organisations and the legislative framework need to keep evolving to meet future needs,” Mr Zimmerman says.

“The age pension and superannuation systems need to complement the ageing demographic.

“As part of the Southern Cross Care Board, I will continue to pursue these strategic and operational goals.”

Mr Zimmerman also works as a non-executive director of HESTA Superannuation Fund, ISPT Super Property Trust, Commonwealth Association for the Ageing and The New Daily. He previously sat on the state and national aged care industry board for many years and is a past National President and Chair of Aged & Community Services Australia.

He also coaches and mentors CEO’s and Senior Executives as well as assisting strategically in the aged care sector.

In January 2014 Mr Zimmerman was awarded an Order of Australia for his services to the Aged Care Sector.
