A new nursing home in Wheelers Hill will provide more than 100 aged care beds to meet the needs of Monash’s ageing population.

The $24 million development in Jells Rd, near Grandview Rd, will house 105 nursing home beds and a 60-unit retirement village.

Mulgrave Ward councillor, Charlotte Baines, said the development was a welcome addition to Monash’s aged care services and catered for a growing need for nursing home and retirement facilities.

The council’s population forecasts show the number of Monash residents aged 70 to 84 is expected to rise from 17,411 last year to 22,205 by 2021. The number of residents aged 84 and over is also forecast to rise from 3,
8 last year to 5,423 in 2021.

The site of the development is between a Caltex service station and the Wheelers Hill International Motor Inn. The three-storey facility will feature 73 rooms as well as communal areas and rooms for a visiting hairdresser and podiatrist.
