National Volunteers Week 14-20 May
During Volunteering Australia’s ‘National Volunteers Week’ from 14-20 May, Parks Victoria will be celebrating the many long term and collaborative efforts which contribute significantly in managing Victoria’s national parks and reserves, historic areas and marine national parks and reserves.
“The world has fast become aware of the vital contribution parks make to a healthy environment, to the health of individuals and to a healthy society, and getting involved with parks can benefit you and your community in so many ways,” Parks Victoria acting chief executive, Gerard O’Neill, said
“Volunteers are an essential part of the continuing health of our parks and we are very grateful to the assistance and dedication of so many who help us in protecting and enhancing one of the world’s finest network of parks, bays and waterways,” he said.
“Thanks to the tireless contributions of volunteers and community groups we have benefited in the past year from over 186,000 hours of energy and hard work from many committed Victorians. These Friends groups, community associations, special interest groups, recreational clubs, schools and individuals have joined with us to support environmental works, undertake visitor services projects and help protect cultural values.”
Parks Victoria offers a number of diverse volunteer opportunities to provide people with a special understanding of parks, with new skills and opportunities for personal development and to meet others within the community.
