National Seniors launches election policy

National Seniors is kicking off its 2007 election campaign with an election platform launch in Parliament House in Canberra on 8 August.

It has developed its election priorities through membership surveys in its magazine 50 Something and on line, focus group testing with its policy groups, and a think tank focusing on baby boomer concerns.

It also conducted telephone surveys and focus groups in four marginal electorates with a high proportion of older voters.

People were asked to nominate their vote changing issues, with health and the environment featuring highly.

In addition to the policy launch which will focus on these themes, National Seniors will also organise a speakers’ series over the coming months. This will include a televised National Press Club debate on 22 August between the Minister for Ageing, Christopher Pyne, and his Opposition counterpart, Senator Jan McLucas.
