National project calls for aged care facilities
Australian aged care facilities are being called to take part in a national research project into residential aged care staffing levels, skills mix, assessment tools and resident care needs. The federal Australian Nursing Federation (ANF) has been appointed project manager of the project, which has been funded by the Australian government as a commitment in the 2010 Federal Budget.
The results of this research will help inform the federal government in its response to the recent Productivity Commission’s Caring for Older Australians Report.
Collaborating with consultants Applied Aged Care Solutions, the ANF remains confident in providing important evidence and information about the staffing issues in aged care.
The ANF will also work with a range of industry stakeholders from aged care providers and networks, aged care employer organisations, other unions involved in the aged care sector to national seniors and ageing organisations.
Professional officer, Mark Staaf, from the Victorian ANF branch, has been nominated to participate in the project management committee and industry reference group.
The final report findings are expected to be handed to the Federal government by June next year.
The Australian Nursing Federation is now seeking expressions of interest from aged care facilities to participate in the project. Expressions of interest can be forwarded to Trish Currie, Project Manager from the South Australian Branch on (08) 8334 1900 or email trish.currie@anmfsa.org.au
