More scholarships for aged care nurses

Applications have opened for up to 395 undergraduate aged care nursing scholarships worth up to $30,000 each as part of the Gillard Government’s commitment to boost training for aged care workers Minister for Ageing, Justine Elliot, announced.

“Improved and expanded education and training for aged care workers complements the Government’s investments to provide better health and better aged care services.

“Investments in nursing scholarships and aged care training places help to improve care and underpin the sustainability of the aged care system.

“These scholarships are one way we are working hard to better equip the aged care system to meet the growing demand for services into the future,” Minister Elliot said.

The Gillard Government will provide more than $7 million in nursing scholarships that provide financial assistance of up to $5,000 per semester to a maximum of $30,000.

“If anyone is interested in a nursing career, aged care is a great part of the health system to work in and scholarships like these provide real and practical support while you study.

“The scholarships build on the $154 million the Government has invested to train more than 25,700 aged care workers,” she said.

Applications for the scholarships close on 10 September 2010.

More information on the scholarships is available from the Royal College of Nursing Australia on 1800 116 696 or at http://www.rcna.org.au/scholarships/agedcarenursingschols
