The Salvation Army Riverview Gardens Aged Care Centre has evacuated its residents as the flood crisis worsens.

Riverview Gardens was given a directive by State Emergency Services and Queensland Ambulance Service to evacuate Riverview Gardens due to the flooding.

Nursing home and dementia care residents were evacuated over night to a new Salvation Army aged care centre in Chapel Hill. Hostel residents are taking shelter at Ripley Church, Ripley.

The Department of Health and Ageing, state manager and families of residents were notified of the evacuation by Mr Luke Greive, acting chief executive officer of The Salvation Army Aged Care Plus.

“We want to assure everyone that the evacuation was successful and without incident. All residents are safe and are receiving proper care.

“Staff meetings are being conducted to ensure sufficient staff are available at both sites for the night shift and morning shift,” says Mr Grieve.
