More milk helps in diabetes battle

Calcium and vitamin D are important for healthy bones and may also protect against diabetes with drinking more milk apparently decreasing the risk of type 2 diabetes by nearly 15%.

According to a study in the ‘Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism’ researchers combined the results from all the previous studies looking at the link between
calcium, vitamin D, and diabetes.

Compared to people getting fewer than 1.5 servings of milk and milk products a day, those with the highest dairy intake of three to five servings a day, has a nearly 15% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

The researchers suggested that calcium and vitamin D could influence the body’s ability to produce or use insulin, the sugar-processing hormone that is impaired in diabetics.
