More foot care for senior Victorians
One hundred and ninety eight Victorian Home and Community Care (HACC) agencies would share $200,000 worth of grants to provide additional podiatry services to seniors with high needs, to help them lead healthy and active lives.
Foot disorders in seniors are common and if not treated or prevented can cause considerable pain and disability, leading to loss of mobility and independence.
Programs like Healthy Feet for Active Living will include education to improve self-care, advice on footwear and diabetes education and will back up existing programs encouraging healthy eating and exercise programs.
Around 220,000 Victorians receive HACC services such as nursing, meals on wheels, home care, property maintenance, activity groups and respite care through 500 local councils, health services and non-government agencies.
