Melbourne group wins major cancer research grant
The Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF) has awarded five million dollars – one of the country’s largest ever single cancer research grants – to a Melbourne consortium of cancer research institutes: Royal Melbourne Hospital, Royal Women’s Hospital, the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research and the University of Melbourne.
They have formed an Australia first collaborative and integrated research centre where clinicians diagnosing and treating cancer patients and scientists researching the disease will adopt the approach to cancer research in line with the renowned Texas Institute the MD Anderson Centre, finding new avenues to discover how cancers develop and progress.
