Melb council to lure developer with half-price land

Public land valued at more than $7 million will be sold to a private developer for about half the market price, in a bid to encourage the development of an aged care centre.

Stonnington Council wants to sell the Bowen Street site in Malvern East to an aged care provider for about $3.5 million.

The council, which owns most of the site, is hoping 80 to 90 independent living units will be built on the land.

At present, the site contains a child care centre and a senior citizens’ centre run by aged care provider MECWA, a scout hall and a vacant building that housed a library.
