Making the law work for Victorian seniors
A special Victorian Law Week which includes information on services and social issues especially useful for seniors, will run from Monday 11 May, through to Sunday 17 May.
The Office of the Public Advocate (OPA) will hold a workshop for health and community care workers to examine issues related to autonomy, advocacy, risk and rights, and guardianship.
It runs from 10am to 2.30pm on Tuesday 12 May, with bookings essential on (03) 9603 9566.
A second OPA seminar related to the enduring powers of attorney will include a DVD screening explaining what participants should do to prepare for the future.
This will be held on Thursday 14 May, from 2pm to 4pm with bookings again on (03) 9603 9566.
The week has been co-ordinated by the Victoria Law Foundation and also includes guided cemetery tours looking at the graves of famous lawyers, judges and criminals at the Melbourne and Brighton general cemeteries, St.Kilda cemetery, and Cheltenham pioneer cemetery.
As well, Council on the Ageing (COTA Victoria) and Seniors Rights Victoria, are assisting with seminars at the Melbourne CBD, Box Hill, Geelong and Bendigo, on safeguarding savings and the law for older residents.
