Alan and Joyce Williams are no strangers to being each other’s one and only love on Valentine’s Day.

Married in 1950, the couple (pictured) reside at Tall Trees Caboolture and first met over the Christmas holidays one year when Joyce’s family was staying in Coolangatta and Alan’s nearby Kirra.

“We spent a lot of time together over the holidays and learnt that we lived just over a mile away from each other, so after we got home we kept seeing each other,” Mrs Williams says.

After about two and a half years of dating, they became engaged in 1948 and married in a small church at Dinmore two years later.

More than 62 years together, Mr and Mrs Williams have created many memories and a beautiful family, including three children, 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

They both agree that the secret to a long and happy marriage is “a lot of give and a bit of take”.

This Valentine’s Day will be the first time they celebrate the day of love at Tall Trees Care Communities.

“We lived in the same family home in Ebbw Vale from 1951 to July last year and moving to Tall Trees Caboolture was our first major move,” Mr Williams says.

“I’m officially my wife’s carer, but I had an operation in February last year and when I was recuperating I realised that I may sometimes need care myself, so we looked around at our options,” he says.

After being in the same home for so long, the couple admit it was a big move.

“But we’ve made a lot of new friends, have new neighbours for the first time in years, and we’ve never looked back,” Mr Williams says.

Tall Trees Care Communities provides an environment for senior couples to stay together in the later years of life, even if they are like Mr and Mrs Williams who require different levels of care.
