Local input sought for GP Super Clinic on the Gold Coast

Gold Coast residents and health professionals are invited to share ideas about the best options for the GP Super Clinic on the Gold Coast.

GP Super Clinics are playing a key role in the Gillard Government’s efforts to make it easier for Australians to see and contact a doctor when they need to.

The Minister for Health and Ageing, Nicola Roxon, said that the consultation is designed to ensure the Gold Coast GP Super Clinic will meet local needs.

“The Gold Coast is a rapidly growing community in Queensland’s south-east corner with an ageing population and high levels of chronic disease – key challenges we want to build our health services around,” Ms Roxon said.

“It’s very important that we work closely with the local community to make sure this GP Super Clinic offers the right services for the people of the Gold Coast.

“There is no ‘one size fits all’ for GP Super Clinics, so we are encouraging local residents to team up with health professionals and share ideas about the best options for their local GP Super Clinic.

The Gillard Government will provide up to $7 million to establish the Gold Coast GP Super Clinic as part of the funding for 28 additional GP Super Clinics provided in the 2010-11 Budget.

A register of interested parties has been established to help people to receive further information as it becomes available. Requests to be included on the register should be e-mailed to gpsuperclinics@health.gov.au
