Let’s Talk About Sex conference
It is only 3 more weeks until the inaugural international Let’s Talk About Sex conference kicks off in Melbourne. Hosted by Alzheimer’s Australia Vic and COTA Victoria, the event will discuss how to better manage the challenges relating to sexual behaviour in your care setting.
The Let's Talk About Sex: Relationships and Intimacy As We Age Conference will explore a range of themes including ‘The Right to Choose’, ‘Safety and Health', 'Attitudes and Values' and ‘Having the Conversation.’
The conference will help discover techniques to enable intimacy and sexual expression among the people you care for in your workplace and leave with a robust understanding of capacity and consent.
Whether you are a policy maker, manager or work directly with older people, the Let’s Talk about Sex conference aims to equip you with the tools for assessment, a framework for managing sexual expression in your care setting and strategies for managing challenging behaviours.
Society has a tendency to regard us as asexual when we get older. However, our desire for intimacy remains. This conference will support workers to understand and support the needs of older people in this area, as well as to deal with challenging situations.
The conference will bring together internationally acclaimed speakers from medical and allied health, education, government and aged care sectors, who will provide a high level of education and arresting discussion on the important topic of relationships and intimacy.
Keynote speakers include:
- Joan Price, a California-based advocate for ageless sexuality, media-dubbed “senior sexpert,” and author of three books about senior sex.
- Dr Rosie King, a New South Wales based, internationally acclaimed sex therapist, educator, author and lecturer with over 30 years of clinical experience.
- Kaz Cooke, a well-known Melbourne-based author, cartoonist, radio broadcaster and public speaker. Kaz is one of Australia’s most trusted advisors for girls and women and is well versed in putting a light hearted spin on taboo subjects.
A key focus area of the 2-day event is sex and Dementia, and the challenges this presents, with National Ambassador of Alzheimer’s Australia Ita Buttrose AO OBE as one of the speakers.
The Let’s Talk About Sex conference 2015 will take place on 8 and 9 September at Pullman Hotel in Melbourne. For more information or to register visit www.ltas2015.com, email ltas2015@arinex.com.au or call 03 9417 0888.
