More than 400 nurses, administration officers and carers are among the Bupa Aged Care employees who were recently recognised as ‘Bupa Legends’ for going above and beyond their personal best to improve the lives of those they care for.
To celebrate their success, they attended Bupa’s ‘Night of Legends’ dinner where one person from each of Bupa’s care homes was rewarded with the Wish of a Lifetime prize, valued at $3,000.
More than 1,000 people attended the awards dinners, held in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide in early March.

Paul Gregersen, managing director of Bupa Care Services, believes the award winning employee reward and recognition program, ‘Personal Best’, is key to Bupa’s reputation for excellent care.
“Our staff pledged a commitment every month that relates to improving the lives of our residents. In 2012, more than 20,000 commitments were pledged, which equates to personalised care that greatly improves the lives of all of our residents,” Mr Gregersen said.
“Our Bupa Legends put our residents at the centre of everything they do, and go above and beyond to ensure they live longer, healthier and happier lives,” he said.
The commitments can be small yet significant gestures such as painting a resident’s nails, mending their clothes, or bringing in a bunch of flowers from home to brighten up a resident’s room.
Bupa Roseville Care Home employee, Linda Lott, travels two hours from her Central Coast home to Roseville each day, always with a needle and thread to mend residents’ much loved clothes.
Ms Lott has worked at Bupa Roseville for more than 20 years. According to her manager, Alma O’Leary, Ms Lott’s commitments have been 100% resident focused and have truly made a difference in the home.
“Watching Ms Lott’s commitment to the Personal Best program has been such a pleasure for me,” she said.
“Some of her most recent ventures have included making individual fiddle cloths for some of our residents, and hand sewing rugs for residents using their strips of knitting,” Ms O’Leary said. “She is a true Bupa Legend and an inspiration to us.”
What started as a Personal Best commitment for Ms Lott turned into a $3,000 Wish of a Lifetime when she was named Bupa Roseville’s winning Legend at the dinner.
“I was so excited when they called my name, and also a little embarrassed and overwhelmed,” Ms Lott recalls. “I couldn’t stop shaking and crying.”
