The award recognises a South Australian organisation that has demonstrated a commitment to providing high quality dementia care, that continually improves and innovates their dementia care services, and supports the needs of people with dementia, their families and carers.

The Dementia Care Excellence Award is part of the South Australian Community Achievement Awards, recognising individuals, organisations and groups who are making a difference in our local communities and State in seven different categories. Winners are announced in November 2015.

Currently there are over 30,000 people with dementia in South Australia, this number increases daily with 1,700 people diagnosed with the disease across Australia every week. There is no known cause and right now, no cure. Dementia is the 2nd largest killer of Australians and is the single greatest cause of disability in people aged 65 years and older.

Alzheimer’s Australia South Australia presents the Dementia Care Excellence Award to celebrate achievement in championing the care of people with dementia, to work towards a society committed to reducing the impact of dementia.

Find out more about the award including category guidelines or nominate a South Australian care facility you think deserves to be recognised by this award.
