Land provided for new Croatian aged care facility
The Victorian Coalition government has honoured a 2010 election commitment by providing land to enable Victorian Croatian Aged Care Services to build a new residential aged care facility in North Geelong.
Victorian Minister for Health, David Davis, has announced the signing of a lease enabling the build of a new state of the art aged care facility specifically for the large Croatian community.
Victorian Minister for Health, David Davis, has announced the signing of a lease enabling the service to build a new state of the art aged care facility specifically for the large Croatian community in North Geelong.
“We want to make sure that Victoria’s diverse multicultural communities, such as the Croatian community, have a choice and can access care that meets their needs,” Minister Davis says.
“With Victoria’s population ageing, the Napthine government is supporting the growth of aged care places in Geelong,” he adds.
Victorian Croatian Aged Care Services has been awarded 100 aged care places by the federal government.
The provider has been leased one hectare of public land in Bell Park, North Geelong, to allow Victorian Croatian Aged Care Services to build a new residential aged care facility.
Member for Western Victoria Region, David Koch, says he is glad to work with Geelong’s Croatian community to achieve the important outcome. “I hope this purpose built facility will serve the community for many years to come,” Mr Koch says.
The site, fronting Anakie Road, is the former Barton Street Campus of Western Heights Secondary College.
Minister Davis says the Victorian Coalition government has long recognised the need for additional aged care facilities for the Croatian community in North Geelong.
“The Napthine government respects our elders and their life long contribution to our state. That’s why we delivered $2 million to secure this surplus public land and enable a not for profit aged care provider to develop residential aged care services,” Minister Davis says.
