Is science’ related to caring’?
Registered nurses are invited to take part in a research project that aims to identify the existence and extent of the theory-practice gap between science taught in undergraduate nursing courses and the science used by nurses in clinical practice.
The study is being led by Melanie Birks from the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Nutrition at James Cook University.
The study will identify any discrepancy between what is perceived to be an appropriate knowledge base for nursing practice and what is actually taught in nursing programs. The findings will assist in ensuring the relevance of science content included in the programs.
This questionnaire will ask nurses about their perceptions of science in nursing courses and the relative importance they feel should be placed on various science topics.
The questionnaire should take no more than 20 minutes to complete. You may choose to answer all or some of the questions.
Taking part in this study is completely voluntary and you can stop taking part in the study at any time without explanation or prejudice. Submitting the questionnaire implies your consent to participate.
Your responses and contact details will be strictly anonymous. The data from the study will be used in research publications and reports. You will not be identified in any way in these publications.
You will be invited to enter a draw to win a $150 gift voucher at the completion of the survey. Details that you provide for this purpose will not be linked to your responses.
If you have any questions about the study, call Melanie Birks on 0400 668 281 or email melanie.birks@jcu.edu.au. Complete the online questionnaire.
