IRT signs National Compact
Federal Member for Cunningham, Sharon Bird, visited IRT’s new Wollongong headquarters in New South Wales to officially congratulate the aged care and seniors living provider becoming a National Compact partner.
Launched by Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, at Parliament House earlier this year, the Compact is an agreement between the Government and the Third (not-for-profit) Sector.
It gives community organisations of all sizes real input into Government policy and program delivery and enables a true collaboration on key social, economic and environmental challenges facing our communities.
IRT chief executive, Nieves Murray, welcomed the timely opportunity for IRT to celebrate the partnership given last week’s announcement of the Productivity Commission’s public inquiry into aged care.
“We’ll be utilising every opportunity to have input into the redesign of Australia’s aged care system be it the Productivity Commission or the National Compact,” Ms Murray said.
“IRT is Australia’s largest not-for-profit community based aged care and seniors living provider. We feel it is nothing less than our responsibility to be a part of the discussions that will help shape the future of this sector, so we can seek the best outcomes for older people.
Ms Murray said the National Compact now had 150 organisations from throughout Australia, including the Benevolent Society, World Vision, Lifeline and Surf Life Saving.
“The interests and responsibilities of Third Sector organisations are diverse, but they are united by a shared commitment to community wellbeing without individual commercial gain,” she said.
