IRT secures future for Links Seaside

Illawarra Retirement Trust (IRT) takes ownership of waterfront Links Seaside property today, securing the future for residents and staff at the New South Wales facility.

Chief executive, Nieves Murray, said Links Seaside was the first seniors living facility the company had not purpose built itself.

“This was an attractive growth option for IRT because the facility is already operational and will allow us to provide care and services immediately,” Ms Murray said.

Ms Murray said the new property expands customer options in IRT’s Illawarra heartland, but it was important to note that a higher price tag did not alter the quality of care.

“IRT operates properties and services spanning the entire socio-economic spectrum of older people, ranging from the homeless through to the more affluent,” Ms Murray said.

Ms Murray said as a company with a 40-year history in the sector, IRT has seen great change in the market, with higher expectations as the younger generations aged.

“This continually poses a welcome challenge for IRT, particularly with the growth in our aged population increasing exponentially as forecast in the Federal Government’s Intergenerational Report released last month.

“With the first of our Baby Boomers entering the market in 2014, the demand for seniors living options is increasing. The younger generations of our ageing society are looking at this kind of property as an alternative option to merely downsizing, so they can actively age with the peace-of-mind that support is there,” she said.
