Inspirational aged care workers

Gae Munsie came out of retirement to work with Queensland aged care provider, Tall Trees Care Communities, because the care model inspired her.

“Gae has over 35 years  experience in a variety of executive and senior management roles at both Gold Coast Hospital and Allamanda Private Hospital,” Mr Phil Usher, Tall Trees cofounder, says.

“Before retiring she spent 12 years as the manager of various aged care facilities, during which time she introduced models of care that were recognised by the industry as best practice.

Tall Trees Caboolture’s onsite chef, Wayne Pollard, previously worked as head chef for a number of award winning, 5-star restaurants but found he had little workplace satisfaction.

In his previous roles in Canberra and Brisbane restaurants, Mr Pollard claims he didn’t get the opportunity to interact with customers, and was working weekends and long hours each day.

“I came into aged care to see the satisfaction of my customers, to work better hours and have the opportunity to develop a relationship with the residents and provide meals that they love.

“I feel like I can achieve more here than just feeding people in a restaurant. It’s a friendly environment and there’s a good work structure for all employees no matter what their role.”

Mr Pollard also holds a Certificate III in Nursing. “So, I can do a lot more than what other chefs in aged care facilities would have the potential to do.”
