In case of an emergency

Imagine your loved one had a medical emergency and was unable to talk to you – do you know if they have their affairs in order? How easy would it be for you or someone else to find medications, their doctor’s phone number or insurance details?

The Home Instead Senior Care In Case Of Emergency app and A3 Discussion Prompt sheet have been developed as part of  a public education campaign to encourage families to talk about their plans and desires in the event of emergency situations such as hospitalisation or illness.

The app features prompts for discussion such as Ask the big questions. These are the “what if” scenarios eg  ‘Have you talked about what kind of care you might like if you are unable to communicate in the future?’

The app allows for contact details to be added for as many individuals as desired including medical conditions, medical contacts, allergies, medications etc for each individual. Once entered, this information can be readily accessed including automatic dialling functions to desired contacts.

Our experience has shown that many families don’t have this information and they may never have broached these subjects – so it can be a real problem sorting out affairs in the event of a medical emergency.

Open and informed communication amongst seniors and their family members can lead to positive experiences, as well as averting crisis situations.
