Seniors who have given up driving within the past two years are encouraged to take part in research which delves into the impact of hanging up the car keys later in life.
The Australian National University in Canberra is looking for people aged over 65 years to share their experiences by completing a questionnaire which may take about 30 minutes to complete.
Researcher, Sarah Walker, says the purpose of the project is to explore the relationship between driving status, coping styles and wellbeing among adults over 65 years old.
“The project has the potential to inform development of interventions designed to help people adjust to life after retiring from driving. Identifying the factors that account for the negative impacts on mental health related to driving cessation will inform future research in this area,” Ms Walker explains.
The questionnaire asks driving related questions, physical and mental health questions, personality traits, ways of coping, and questions on satisfaction with life.
Complete the online questionnaire now. If you prefer to complete a ‘pen and paper’ questionnaire, one will become available soon. Contact Ms Walker on (02) 6125 0018 or email sarah.walker@anu.edu.au for more information.
