Housework not so bad

Posted
by DPS

Who would have thought than cleaning the toilet or weeding the garden could be good for you? It’s not as effective as going for a run, but housework and gardening do burn up energy and can improve your strength, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness.

Listed activities in kilojoules per hour:

  • Ironing 520
  • Making beds 580
  • Scrubbing floors 1680
  • Vacuuming 740
  • Gardening 1260
  • Mowing grass 1680
  • Washing car 960
  • Hanging out the washing 1000

House and garden work is available for everyone and can be done at any time. You can kill two birds with one stone: cardiovascular exercise AND making your home look nice and clean.

Housework-itis, common symptoms include inability to get off the couch and tears at the sight of cleaning products.

The best cure is sharing the house and garden work amongst family members.
