Hospital organ donor rates improve
Australians Donate National Organ Donor Collaborative has been an outstanding success with organ donor rates in the 22 participating hospitals in the first 12 months to the end of June 2007, increasing by 25% over the previous five-year average.
Marcia Coleman, chairman of Australians Donate says “this Australians Donate initiative shows substantial improvements in Australia’s organ donation rates can be achieved through collaboration and sharing of better practices between hospitals”.
The Collaborative, undertaken by 22 Hospitals across Australia was the initiative of peak national body for organ and tissue donation for transplantation, Australians Donate.
Funded by the Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments, Australians Donate has set out to substantially improve Australia’s organ donor rates, which are amongst the lowest in the world for developed countries.
