Heatwave information for South Australians

Posted
by DPS

As the hot weather sets in, South Australia Emergency Services Minister, Michael Wright, has launched a publication called the Heatwave Information Guide, designed to help South Australians prepare for and cope with heatwaves.

“Extreme heat events can have a detrimental impact on the community and now is the time to start preparing for summer.”

Advice contained in the guide is targeted towards the most vulnerable members of the community and stresses that those around them need to make sure they consider the welfare of those most at risk.

For instance they can do this by checking on their elderly relatives, friends and neighbours to ensure that they are coping.

State Emergency Services (SES) chief officer, Stuart Macleod, said although all people were susceptible to the effects of extreme heat, the elderly, the young and those with pre-existing medical conditions were most at risk.

The Heatwave Information Guide is available from SES State and Regional Headquarters and is also available at all Service SA customer service outlets.

Copies can also be downloaded from the SES website http://www.ses.sa.gov.au

Most State Emergency Services, or their counterparts, offer similar guides to residents.
