Heart attack patients unaware of future risks
A New Zealand study has found patients who have had a myocardial infarction, often do not fully understand their future health risks once discharged from hospital.
The study by Dr Elizabeth Broadbent and colleagues, from the University of Auckland, is in the latest edition of the Internal Medicine Journal, published by the Adult Medicine Division of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
“Patients need to know the risks associated with their condition and the treatment options so that they can make informed healthcare decisions,” Dr Broadbent said.
