Health monitoring aid for diabetics
The Victorian and Israeli Governments have funded a research project which has developed a medical monitor worn like a wristwatch to allow diabetics to monitor their health.
With the simple pressure of a finger to the wrist monitor, a patient can check heart rate, blood pressure and blood oxygen saturation levels.
The hi-tech MD Keeper is linked to the patient’s doctor through mobile phone technology, allowing the doctor to monitor the patient’s condition remotely, saving a trip to the doctor’s surgery. In cases of medical emergency the device is fitted with GPS navigation and an inbuilt speaker system.
Three other projects funded under the joint Victorian-Israeli Government’s agreement are potential treatments for Lou Gehrig’s disease, blood glucose monitoring systems for diabetics and software to analyse milk quality.
