Half of Australian seniors not online
Almost half of Australians over the age of 65 have never used the internet in the 15 years after the invention of the World Wide Web.
The Australian Communications and Media Authority has released a report stating that 44% of senior Australians have never gone online.
A total of 75% said the internet was not relevant to their lifestyle but 4% of those who had never used the internet still said they were likely to do so in the future.
However the figures showed that of the 2.6 million Australians who don’t use the internet, not all are seniors.
People who live alone or are without children are also less likely to be connected.
In contrast all respondents aged 14 to 17 had used the internet with 92% using it at least weekly.
More than half of the respondents aged 14 to 49 used the internet on a daily basis.
