Haemophilia Awareness Week 7-13 October

Posted
by DPS

Haemophilia Awareness Week is an initiative of Haemophilia Foundation Australia, to raise community awareness about bleeding disorders in Australia.

The week is preceded by the 14th Australian & New Zealand Haemophilia Conference for people with haemophilia and their families and carers, haemophilia health professionals and health policy makers, to be held in Canberra from 4-7 October.

Around 2,000 people have bleeding disorders in Australia with up 20-30 new cases identified each year.

According to Haemophilia Foundation Australia president, Gavin Finkelstein, treatment in Australia has made significant advances in recent years which have greatly improved the quality of life for people with bleeding disorders.

Haemophilia Foundation Australia’s role is to provide education and advocacy for the bleeding disorders community in Australia and works closely with the World Federation of Haemophilia.

The Foundation will mark the Week with the distribution of education material to health services, community organisations, schools, libraries and information centres.
