Growing demand for twin research sparks recruitment call
A growing demand for twins to participate in medical research around Australia has prompted University of Melbourne scientists to urge more twins to volunteer for the Australian Twin Registry, which is managed by the University of Melbourne’s School of Population Health.
It matches volunteer twins with scientists from Australia’s university and research institutes trying to find cures for a range of diseases from epilepsy to cancer. The Australian Twin Registry is the world’s largest and currently has 30,000 active pairs of twins aged from one to 86.
The Australian Twin Registry accepts twins of all ages. Twins under 18 years old must be registered by their parents. Any member of the Australian Twin Registry who is approached to take part in a research study has the right to decline or withdraw from the list at any time.
