The Play Project – which officially launched last Sunday – encourages grandparents to play the games they once played as youngsters with their own grandchildren. It calls for families to disconnect from technology and make room for ‘play’ in their lives.
The project’s ‘Twister in Town’ event was held today at Melbourne’s The Block Arcade.
The community groups involved in the project include The Parents’ Jury, YMCA, Council on the Ageing (COTA) and Physical Activity Australia.
Dr Kathleen Brasher of COTA says: “As we age it is important to keep active so as to maintain our health. The Play Project is a wonderful opportunity for older people to share the games they played as a child with their family and community.”
“Play ideally should be an intergenerational activity so we have asked grandparents to bring their grandkids to a Twister tournament in Melbourne’s iconic arcade – the Block Arcade, under the dome,” she said.
