GP Super Clinic for Southern Lake Macquarie in NSW
Waratah Medical Services @ Morisset Trust will run the Federal Government funded $2.5 million Southern Lake Macquarie GP Super Clinic in NSW. It will focus on health care services for older people in the local community , according to local member, Greg Combet.
He welcomed the announcement and said he looked forward to the refurbishment and expansion commencing in early 2009. Mr Combet has been a firm advocate for the establishment of additional medical services for the residents of Lake Macquarie.
“The Southern Lake Macquarie GP Super Clinic will be a purpose-built three-story facility, located in the Morisset shopping precinct. It will bring together general practitioners, practice nurses, allied health professionals, specialists and x-ray technicians,” said Mr Combet.
“The clinic will provide integrated health services to meet the needs and priorities of the local community. It will have a strong emphasis on preventative care, chronic disease management and women’s health. It will also focus on providing health care services for older people in the local community. The GP Super Clinic will bulk bill GP services and x-rays.
“Some services, such as the x-ray facilities will be operational by mid-2009, and the entire GP Super Clinic should be operational in early 2010.
“There will be no disruption to the current services provided by Waratah Medical Services @ Morisset while the redevelopment and expansion takes place.”
Waratah Medical Services @ Morisset currently operates a general practice in Morisset and Kanwal. This funding will allow the existing general practice at Morisset to expand to meet growing demand for health services in Southern Lake Macquarie.
