GP Super Clinic for Redcliffe Qld to focus on chronic disease management

The Rudd Government has signed a contract with the Redcliffe Hospital Foundation to run the $5 million Redcliffe GP Super Clinic.

To be known locally as the Moreton Bay Integrated Care Centre, this modern purpose-built facility will be located on the grounds of Redcliffe Hospital.

The facility will bring together GPs, practice nurses, allied health professionals and specialists in one convenient location.

The Moreton Bay Integrated Care Centre will provide two streams of care:

* An acute care service to take pressure off the Redcliffe Hospital Emergency Department;
* A chronic disease management service to tackle the burden of chronic disease in Redcliffe with GPs and allied health workers delivering team-based patient centred care.

The GP Super Clinic will have a strong focus on education and training for students and graduates from a range of disciplines including general practice, nursing and allied health.

The Redcliffe Hospital Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation committed to enhancing the health and wellbeing of the community.

The announcement follows community consultation in Redcliffe last year where around 70 local community representatives and health professionals came along to share their views on the GP Super Clinic.

“The GP Super Clinic will take pressure off the Redcliffe Hospital and assist local health professionals with tackling the growing burden of chronic diseases in the community,” local MP, Mrs Yvonne D’Ath, said.
