GG urges Australians to volunteer
Governor-General Sir Michael Jeffery has challenged the public to volunteer, and consider organisations such as Rotary, the Scouts and Meals-on-Wheels.
Speaking in the lead up to Australia Day, he said he was mounting a campaign for a more caring community, and he said last year’s winners of Australian of the Year, set a good example for others.
He said that around 4.5 million people already did some form of voluntary work but that perhaps double that was needed.
