Generous’ seniors giving more than ever
Seniors have been given the title of the most generous charity donors in Australia, according to the 2014 NAB Charitable Giving Index, as reported by over 50s seniors lobby group, National Seniors Australia.
The index found Australians are giving more to charity in spite of below trend economic growth, rising joblessness and elevated anxiety around the cost of living.
National Seniors Australia reports charitable giving grew by more than 8% in the year to February 2014, and has grown by almost 19% since December 2010.
Older Australians aged over 65 years were the most generous in the country, giving away an average of $388 in the past year.
Donations to humanitarian services charities were the most popular, attracting around 33% of all donations followed by health and disability causes and medical research and services.
