Funding to reduce pain of arthritis
A University of Sydney project which provides online support tools to people with arthritis to help them better manage their condition has received a funding boost from the federal government.

The funding will allow the functionality of the MyJointPain.org.au website to be enhanced to make it even easier for people to use.
Professor David Hunter, a University expert in osteoarthritis treatment and research helped to develop this world first evidence-based website.
“MyJointPain.org.au is an easy to use, online support tool that gives people living with osteoarthritis access to a credible resource that will help them manage their condition and improve their mobility and quality of life,” Professor Hunter said.
“This new funding will allow MyJointPain.org.au to be expanded and improved with additional features such as video content, an online moderated community forum and mobile smartphone applications, making it even more user-friendly,” he said.
MyJointPain.org.au was developed as a result of a collaboration between Arthritis Australia and the Bupa Health Foundation, to help people to manage their osteoarthritis.
The website offers three major support functions. Firstly, the user will answer questions about their situation, they then receive a summary of their risk of hip or knee osteoarthritis along with management options for osteoarthritis in any joint. In addition, they receive regular updates and ongoing support to keep them on track with managing their joint pain.
Arthritis is often referred to as a single disease but is in fact an umbrella term for more than 100 medical conditions that affect the musculoskeletal system, specifically the joints.
