Funding to help care for terminally ill people

The Australian Government is providing more than $4 million through the fourth round of the Local Palliative Care Grants Program to improve palliative care services to help ease the burden of people with terminal illnesses and their families and carers.

Grants of up to $100,000 have been awarded to 58 organisations under the Local Palliative Care Grants Program.

The aim of palliative care is to achieve the best possible quality of life for terminally ill
people, their families and carers.

The funding is part of the Government’s $23 million commitment to improving palliative
care services announced as part of the $189 million Strengthening Cancer Care measure in the 2005 Budget.

These grants will help health related services, local groups, church and charitable hospices to provide support for people who need palliative care in their communities.
