White Pages and Yellow Pages telephone directories in some metropolitan and regional areas will change from a small to large print size after many reported complaints from seniors.
Seniors lobby group National Seniors Australia welcomed the move by Sensis to change some of its phone books.
According to National Seniors Australia, Sensis last week announced regional editions of the White Pages and Yellow Pages book, as well as books in Canberra, the Gold Coast, Newcastle and Darwin/Alice Springs will change to a larger size format next year in response to user and customer feedback.
Phone books outside of these areas will still be printed in the small print format.
National Seniors Australia led the campaign to discard the “unfriendly” phonebooks after many seniors’ complaints, claiming the small print format could “discriminate” against older people.
National Seniors chief executive, Michael O’Neill, says the move was a “step in the right direction”, but urged Sensis to roll out the large print size phonebooks to all areas.
Sensis executive general product manager, Carl Rigoni, says Sensis will conduct ongoing research to find a format for the directories that balanced comprehensive content with format and font size.
