From residential to home care services
The International Association of Homes and Services for the Ageing (IAHSA) and LeadingAge’s Centre for Applied Research are conducting a study of expansion by ageing service providers from a residential setting model to providing home and community based services (HCBS).
The study will examine the process of moving into home health and home care services as gleaned from key informant interviews, resulting in case studies of nine nursing home and continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) across the globe—the United States, Europe, Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
The key issues we will examine are the following:
Reasons for expanding into HCBS
The elements of the HCBS expansion
The rationale for selecting the services
The organisational culture of the residential business model versus the HCBS model
The challenges these organisations have faced and any lessons accruing from them
The financial implications for the diversification of services.
Study participation would involve two or three telephone interviews at the organisation. Each interview would last about one hour. Researchers will work with the provider to identify the appropriate individuals for the call and work with their schedule to conduct the interviews.
