Free talk in Sydney: New ways of living in older age

Posted
by DPS

COTA NSW  and The Benevolent Society of NSW have organised a free talk about an exciting alternative approach to housing and care for older people developed in Holland and now being trialled in Australia. It will cover issues such as ‘Where do you want to live if your health declines?’ and ‘Is a nursing home the only option?’

The key speaker is Dr Hans Becker, chief executive officer of the Humanitas Foundation, Rotterdam, Holland.

Over the past 15 years the Humanitas organisation has been revolutionising housing and care for older people in Holland.

Humanitas recognised that older people don’t want to live in institutions or move away from friends or family, but when the time comes, they do want to be able to get help to do the things they can’t do any more.

Humanitas set about finding a way for older people to live independently and to stay part of their community, even when their health declines and they can no longer get around as they used to.

Hear about the Humanitas approach and how it is being put into practice in Australia.

It will be held on Friday 27 June 2008, starting at 10.00am–10.30am for morning tea followed at 10.30am–12.30pm by presentation and discussion, at  the Sydney Mechanics’ School of Arts,Level 1, 280 Pitt Street Sydney NSW 2000.

Seating is limited. Phone (02) 9286 3860 or email exec@cotansw.com.au
