Free Melbourne forum on living with advanced cancer

Posted

Learning how to live well while facing the uncertainty of advanced cancer will be the focus of a special forum to be held at The Cancer Council Victoria on Saturday, 1 December.

The free forum covers topics such as finance and legal issues, treatment options, clinical trials, support services and family concerns.

Advanced cancer is a cancer that won’t go away and is unlikely to be cured. However, treatment can keep some advanced cancers under control for months or years, and can help to control symptoms.

Doreen Akkerman AM, director of the Cancer Council’s Cancer Information and Support Service, said the program covered both emotional and practical aspects.

“The When Cancer Won’t Go Away Forum informs people with advanced cancer and their families of ways to communicate with each other and coping strategies. It also looks at the formalities such as making sure you have a legal will and that finances are in order,” she said.

The Cancer Council Victoria’s When Cancer Won’t Go Away Forum for people with advanced cancer will be held on Saturday 1 December, 10.30am – 2.30pm at The Cancer Council Victoria, 100 Drummond Street, Carlton.

Topics will include treatments and medical support available, financial and legal issues, and living with uncertainty. Guest speakers are experts in their topic areas.

RSVP by Wednesday November 28. For more information or to register, call the Cancer Council Helpline on 13 11 20.
