Focus on mature age employment
The Victorian government has launched a new strategy to boost Victoria’s workforce participation rates and skills base.
Skills and Workforce Participation Minister, Jacinta Allan, said Working Victoria would provide a vision and framework to tackle the impact of an ageing population on the size and composition of the Victorian workforce.
“Firstly, we need to build a stronger workforce based on skills, better workforce planning and better health for Victorian workers.
“Secondly, we need to increase incentives and reduce barriers to work for mature aged people, women with dependents and the greatly disadvantaged,” she said.
“Much of the skills gap is fuelled by the retirement of the baby boomer generation, but we also need better skills to compete globally and to attract investment.”
