Financial help to go digital
Pensioners may soon be able to receive funding assistance to switch to digital television.
The Federal Government announced a pilot package to drive the availability of improved television services as Australia makes the transition to digital.
The trial will be conducted in Mildura, Victoria and depending on the success, is expected to become standard for the rest of the country.
A spokesperson for Communications Minister Stephen Conroy said while it was not yet known how much pensioners would receive, they would be eligible for an in-home assistance package.
Under the Government’s timetable, all analogue television signals will stop by the end of 2013.
