Fight Flu campaign in 2007

Posted
by DPS

The National Institute of Clinical Studies (NICS) has identified a serious gap between evidence relating to influenza vaccinations in ‘at risk’ groups and the actual numbers being vaccinated (just 42%).

It launched the ‘Fight Flu’ campaign and developed a range of information tools including a website www.fightflu.com.au and a toolkit which was mailed around Australia.

NICS is currently evaluating this campaign and gearing up for a 2007 campaign which will expand its focus on the ‘at risk’ groups and their carers, to include health and aged care workers.

Currently, only 20-50% are being vaccinated, despite recommendations from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) that all health care workers should be immunised against influenza, both to protect themselves and those in their care.

The Fight Flu website will have the new information at the end of January. It will include tools to help aged and community care organisations contact care workers as well as their residents and patients.
