Feros captures pearls of wisdom

‘You catch more flies with honey than vinegar’ is one of many pearls of wisdom that is being shared across generations, cultures and countries.

A new grass roots community campaign, an initiative of Queensland based care provider Feros Care, is gathering momentum and engaging people of all ages to share their wisdom and advice with people.

The organisation is encouraging everyone to mail their free Pearls of Wisdom postcards to family and friends, email Pearls of Wisdom messages, or posting messages to websites and social media sites.

Jennene Buckley, chief executive officer of Feros Care says the organisation actively celebrates ageing and challenges traditional stereotypes around ageing and ‘being old’.

“We are proudly outspoken about our approach to fighting ageism.

“Our pearls of wisdom campaign promotes the wisdom of seniors, and encourages everyone to learn from each other – irrespective of how young or old you are. By fostering intergenerational connections by sharing information and advice, it shows that age is just a number.”

Some of the recent Pearls of Wisdom shared include:
    •    Live your best life
    •    Age only as a number
    •    You don’t know what you don’t know
    •    It’s not what you think you are that holds you back, it’s what you think you’re not
    •    Try everything at least once otherwise you’ll never know if you like it
    •    Keep a nickel between your knees

Ms Buckley says you don’t have to be old to be wise, but our communities can learn so much from the life lessons of our seniors.

“Pearls of Wisdom is just one way of showcasing how invaluable our seniors are, and how much advice and knowledge they have to share. Just imagine the pain and heartache that could be saved if we had an endless supply of Pearls of Wisdom to guide us through life,” she says.
