Fed Health Minister calls on Aussies to give blood for Australia Day

In the lead up to Australia Day, the Minister for Health and Ageing, Nicola Roxon, is encouraging Australians to make a difference in the lives of thousands of compatriots by donating blood.

The Australian Red Cross Blood Service has a constant need for blood and is looking for more Australians to become donors and help save the lives of thousands of people who require blood or blood products.

Australia needs around 20,000 donations each week to ensure there is enough blood for the people who need it.

Ms Roxon has been a blood donor for 20 years and understands that her blood will help Australians in need.

Ms Roxon said: “Donating blood is one small way people can help the thousands of Australians that need blood transfusions every week.

“Australia Day is a time for celebration and reflection, but it is also a time to consider how each and every one of us can help the Red Cross Blood Service by taking a short amount of time out from your day to donate.

“As a blood donor, I know that donating doesn’t hurt, so I encourage everyone to get involved and donate.”

To make an appointment to give blood, call 13 14 95 or visit www.donateblood.com.au
